What is the Cayuga County LEPC

In 1986 Congress passed the "Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act" as "Title III" of the Superfund Amendements and Reauthorization Act (SARA). The Cayuga County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) was created int 1993; developed By Laws which state that the primary duty was to develop and manitain an Emergency Response Plan for the County of Cayuga and its municipalities and to review the plan annually.
The LEPC also identifies hazardous materials locations, potential problems, types of response and a response plan. The committee receives and coordinates Tier II reports from local industry regarding hazardous chemicals stored or transported within Cayuga County, and act as a resource to local emergency responders during Hazardous Material Incidents. Since the 9/11 terorist attack, this committee has been active in assisting with a county Hazards Analysis. The focus on the group's mission has changed into an "all hazards" approach in emergency planning.
