The District Attorney is the chief law enforcement official in the county. There is one District Attorney elected in each of the 62 counties throughout New York State. As the chief law enforcement official, the District Attorney is responsible for prosecuting all violations of New York State law that occur within the county, including felonies, misdemeanors, violations and traffic offenses. The District Attorney is also an advisor, advocate, investigator and legal scholar to the grand jury and police agencies in the county, with the ultimate goal of assuring that justice is accomplished for everyone.
